John Mingers is Professor of Operational Research and Systems at Warwick Business School, University of Warwick. He is Subject Leader for the OR and Systems Group and was Programme Director for the M.Sc. in Management Science and Operational Research. He is also a past Chair of the UK Systems Society and has been a member of the Council of the OR Society.

John Mingers studied Management Sciences for his first degree at Warwick and later completed a Masters in Systems in Management at Lancaster University. In between he worked firstly as a systems analyst and then as an OR analyst for British Leyland, Miles Druce (a steel stockholding company) and Elida Gibbs (part of Unilever). Before joining Warwick, he was a Senior Lecturer in OR at Ealing College and Southbank Polytechnic.

His research interests include the use of systems methodologies in problem situations - particularly the mixing of different methodologies within an intervention (multimethodology); the development of the critical systems approach; autopoiesis and its applications; and the nature of information and meaning. He has published over 30 papers in these areas in journals such as the Journal of the Operational Research Society, Systems Practice, Omega, and the Journal of Applied Systems Analysis. He has published the first comprehensive study of autopoiesis - Self-Producing Systems: Implications and Applications of Autopoiesis, and has also edited Multimethodology: the Theory and Practice of Combining Management Science Methodologies (with Tony Gill) and Information Systems: an Emerging Discipline? (with Prof. Frank Stowell).
