I am currently a PhD student at the University of Sunderland. British Telecom
is sponsoring my research and I am working with fellow infoset member, Steve
Brewis.
My first degree was unusual – but looking back it had a cybernetic (or
at least holistic) approach. I gained a BSc (Hons) in European Business with
Technology. This involved completing a business management degree in half the
normal time at Brighton University and complementing this with an Italian
Diploma in Industrial Production and Control Systems. It still sounds good on
paper but the harsh reality of the corruption and power struggles that ‘ran’
through the course still remain.
I escaped the education system for about 5
years trying to find a suitable career. I have had a variety of occupations
ranging from working for large multinationals such as Pearsons as a translator
to working for myself. I finally realised I hadn’t finished with education
when I found myself working as a Medical Sales Representative living on a
motorway on the M25.
This brought me back home to the North East and
enrolled on a MSc in Modelling and Simulation at Sunderland University. I
enjoyed the course and the challenge and was eager to learn more about
Stafford’s work. That gets me back to where I started.
